Coll Try Trad group

The Try Trad group was set up in 2023 to provide a space for local players to dust off their instruments and get together to share tunes. Right from the outset we also had visitors asking to join us while they were on the island, which has been lovely. We’ve had a good mix of instruments including accordions, keyboards, guitars, flutes, whistles, fiddles, cello, mandolin and bodhran.

The music and recordings are shared before each event so that players can familiarise themselves with new tunes before we meet up to play. We meet in the main hall in An Cridhe, Arinagour on Saturday afternoons and play from 2-4pm, once every 6 weeks or so. There are posters in the village with upcoming dates.

The group is building up a repertoire of tunes and has also added a couple of songs.

More recently we’ve been working on creating some arrangements for some of the tunes, and putting tunes into sets to play together. We’ve also had a go at learning a simple harmony by ear.
