Improving Beginners fiddle class

Autumn term 2021

Places in this class are limited due to venue Covid restrictions

Classes will be held once a month (4 in total)
Thursday evenings on 16th September, 14th October, 11th November and 9th December
7-9pm (with a break in the middle)
Wash House, Portobello
Fee (for classes only) – £55

For the autumn term we’ll be running this class as a monthly evening class, learning together in a group face to face.  There will also be an option to join with other members of Fun Fiddle on intervening weeks to play together through our core repertoire of tunes.

Our improving beginners fiddle class focuses on troubleshooting, looking at specific techniques, learning more about bow control, reading music, and different tune types and rhythms. We’ll be looking at tips and tricks for making our playing more expressive. This term we’ll particularly be working on building confidence in playing together with others. We’ll also have plenty of fun while we pick up some more fiddle basics!

The class is a continuation of the absolute beginner’s class which started in January 2019. It’s suitable for anyone who  can pick up tunes on their own by ear. You’ll need your own instrument to attend. There’s no need to be able to read music to join Fun Fiddle classes. See a short summary of the things the Improving Beginners class has covered in previous terms

Recordings of any new tunes are sent out in advance of classes for individuals to learn at home.
